CHALLENGE TRIKE
DESIGN.
As with other
Challenge designs, the Trike gets your attention with its shape.
Heat-treated 7020 T6 aluminum frame material with the trademark arch at
the rear with the split tube stays (the main frame and rear stays are 1
piece, no welded on stays!). The front crossmembers you quickly
start calling wings because they look like airfoil airplane wings, but
angled forward and down.
Paul Voerman wanted the look to not be
cradle like, so when you see the Challenge, you observe you’re sitting
in a virtual plane on wheels.
Virtues of the wings
are when
entering the Trike you don’t have to “fall in.” The rearward angle of
the wings means you step further into the trike, toward the seat, and
then simply sit down. You will also note the steering tie rods run
parallel to the wings to complete the concept. No “stuff” in the way.
Then, the wings wide fore/aft dimension make for bump steer free
tracking, and the shorter vertical wing dimension delivers a passive
suspension effect.
Seating is a fiberglass shell design
(carbon fiber optional), its hourglass
form is 5cm wider than the typical shell seat at the butt and shoulder
zones, with a nice concave internal shape. A good fit all around.
This seat has had the most voluntary positive feedback of any shell seat
design in our experience.
Wheel format is 26/20 with some positive
camber on the front wheels. The kingpin system has 3 sealed bearings
per side hidden inside the steering/handlebar interface module. There are built in disc caliper and mudguard mounts integrated
into the design.
The Challenge Trike in the Concept XT
option has a direct steer
system that in past products has not been my favorite thing, until the
Challenge. Pim, the main development engineer on the project, found
other direct steer designs did not actually have pure Ackermann
geometry, which the Challenge Trike has, as one of the prime reasons
this trike stands out. The Trike has very good self-stabilizing
manners. I was able to ride it “no hands” at will, its natural desire
wanting to pull to center as a default. The handlebars telescopically
adjust to preference, and when you do want to turn, response is very
“all of a piece”, you definitely feel the Trike as an extension of
yourself.
Those preferring a more
traditional system can order the default "central steering" also
with pure Ackermann geometry with a comfortable shape, adjustable stem
for fore and aft adjustment, and a tamer response to steering input than
the direct system.
Wheels. The 20” front rims are laced
into some very interesting Challenge hubs, a design in Paul’s computer
for a number of years, has come out to play on the Trike. A clean
tapered design, it creates a blind disc flange, is strong under side
load, and has some cool looking windows in the center where you can see
the inner axle sleeve turn. A little fun without sacrificing strength.
A lot of the cable runs are internally
routed, a Challenge trademark.
Look closer on the Concept model and you will see the brake system uses standard brakes, but
the brake lever looks different. It is a custom Challenge made
lever
that fits ergonomically perfect to your hand, and the lever body
is mounted horizontal along the handlebar. Your cables run along the
bar to the brake without the usual down under the trike arrangement.
Best in class ground clearance to clear the
obstacles.
The longer wheelbase rides
smooth over all types of terrain in this 26/20 format. The
Challenge Trike is of the "E" series nature, ideal for touring, and is
available with rack systems to compute or self support tour.
Chain run is tubeless with a Challenge
idler under the seat. Quiet.

From the Sims in
Australia, the most well known tadpole trike design. The full line is
available from ANGLETECH.
X5
The X5 is the one we can't keep
in stock more than a few minutes. Based on the GT5 series, the X5 has 10-
degrees more seat recline and positive cambered front wheels for more
stability when pushing the envelope. Very quick acceleration, and one with
the machine feel. Fold it quick for an easy fit into the car. Oh, and the
unstoppable smile.

GT1, GT3 and GT5 Folding Trikes
| The Greenspeed trike
experience in a 30 second fold format. Compact 16” wheels,
19-95 gear inch range in the drive, quick acceleration, solid response.
The folded size is 32 x 28 x 15 inches.

GTO GL81
The GTO/GTC models
are the touring trikes with 81 speeds with an S&S Coupling in the frame
for compact transport. Comes with rear rack and fender.

Featured here is
our GL81 packaged GTO. We have found that most people order disc brakes,
and the SRAM Dual Drive rear hub with the upgraded derailleurs and crank
systems when ordering the factory spec. The GTO GL81 includes:
Magura BIG hydraulic disc brakes with single lever actuation for
straight line stops every time, no brake steer, Suntour cold forged
Superbe cranks with Phil stainless sealed crank bearings, SRAM Dual
drive hub with XT derailleur, Velocity Aeroheat rims hand built with DT
spokes, and the excellent Comp Pool tires. All assembled in the states
at a price better than factory equivalent. |

GTT and GTV TANDEMS.
The Jones family in
Colorado enjoying their Greenspeed GTV with their daughter in the 3 seat Tanjor
trailer. The stability and fun of a Greenspeed for 2. S&S Coupler option
on the GTT brings things down to a transportable size. One of the bonuses of the
GTV tandem (shown above) is that you can remove the center frame section and it
becomes a single!
GREENSPEED GTH
 |
Unlike other handcycle designs, the
Greenspeed GTH features a tadpole type design with 2 wheels out front,
and one in the rear. This makes a more stable trike at speed and while
cornering.
The steering is the the same centerpoint
design Greenspeed has used for years, and yields a much smaller turning
circle than lean to steer designs (10'10").
By powering the rear wheel, you
can now ride places that you only dreamed of, as it provides greater
traction
Gearing wise, the Greenspeed GTH has 54 speeds
spanning a remarkable 6-101 gear inches using the SRAM Dual Drive 3x9
rear hub with a Schlumpf 2 speed shifter in the crank. Shifting while
pedaling or standing still is possible.
Braking is by 2 drum brakes in the front
wheels, with dual discs as an option.
Seating is a very supported and ventilated
full mesh design with lumbar and shoulder support where you sit "in"
rather than "on" it for a more "one with the cycle" feel.
An adjustable leg/foot support system
completes the picture.

adjusted and assembled state before pick up by the consumer at our ANGLETECH
store in Woodland Park, Colorado.
The X3 series is a line of more modestly priced
recumbents designed by Gardner Martin of Easy Racers. Manufactured by Sun
Cycles, these trikes are great recreational rides. Additionally, ANGLETECH has
found the X3 SX very adaptable for the alter-abled, and for various rehab
purposes. The featured X3 SX has the lumbar curved, Kool Back seat with
adjustable backrest, and famed Easy Racer handlebar format. Basket & fenders are
optional along with a host of other items.

M-3 UAX |
EZ3 USX HD
The EZ3 USX HD offers underseat steering
and a shock absorbing suspension in a low step over design. Crank height is
higher relative to your hips for more hill climbing leverage. Finally, the
frame folds in half for easier transport. Extra heavy duty 48 spoke wheels. 400# rider weight capacity . Folded dimensions:
45 L x 33.5 W x 35 H |
 |

X-3 AX
The X3 AX takes the basic
idea of the X3 SX and improves on it. Starting with an aluminum frame to drop
the weight 6 pounds, a 20" front wheel, cambered rear wheels, and 2.5" lower
seat height to improve handling and stability. The crank position improves
climbing efficiency, and the X3 AX has left wheel drive keeping more of your
traction on a paved surface. Component wise, everything is significantly better.

ANGLETECH QUADRA-PED
TOTAL BODY RECUMBENT TRIKES.
Quality craftsmanship, secure, fun
handling, smooth "connected" feeling in the drive bring a smile to your face
every time you climb in and go for a ride on a QuadraPed or TriSpeeder. Options
for performance, comfort, transport and alter-abled adaptability make these
trikes the most versatile on the market.
How the QuadraPed
Works.
While both arms and legs power the
QuadraPed, additional muscle groups in the chest, shoulders, and back contribute
to power play. Hands or feet intuitively steer by tilting the steering column
left to steer left, right to steer right. Two internal drum brakes, actuated by
the crank systems, do the primary braking in an even, smooth manner.
Additionally a standard parking brake is included operating off the rear. This
brake also doubles as drag brake for those long downhill runs, keeping your
speed in check. Adjustable sliding crank booms, and an easy sliding quick
release seat facilitate a perfect fit. As well as the total body format, we
offer individual floating leg rests for arms only or arms and one leg operation.
"S" model for smaller riders is also available.

--Arrives assembled & road tested on a
palate, ready to ride!
